Carbon credit · methane reduction

A credit for methane reduction.

C-CARB.CH4

Composting organic waste (Biowaste) prevents methane from forming. This credit represents the verified emission reduction achieved through that work.

What it represents

1 credit

C-CARB.CH4

=

1 tCO₂e

One metric ton of verified CO₂-equivalent emission reductions.

From material to credit

The outcome begins with real work.

The material is tracked and composted. The evidence passes through verification rules before issuance.

The material has a history

The MassID records the source, mass and movement of the Biowaste. This chain of custody connects the material to the operation's evidence.

Treatment prevents methane

An accredited facility composts the Biowaste. Weighing, delivery and treatment are documented throughout the operation.

The evidence passes through the rules

The BOLD Carbon CH₄ framework defines the criteria and parameters used to verify the material and calculate the emission reduction.

The outcome supports issuance

A GasID records the verified emission reduction. The amount of C-CARB.CH4 issued corresponds to the outcome supported by the certificate.

What each credit represents

One origin. Different outcomes.

The same material can support a recycling outcome and a climate outcome. Each credit has its own unit and verification.

Buying credits funds recycling work

On Carrot's platform, purchased credits are automatically and permanently removed from circulation once the order is complete. You can follow the outcome on the public purchase page.

Issuance, transfer and retirement

Issuance of C-CARB.CH4 matches the outcome recorded in a GasID. Credits allow fractions and are transferable within the protocol.

The protocol supports purchase and retirement as separate operations. In Carrot’s current purchase flow, credits are retired in the same transaction that records the purchase. No credit balance is delivered to the buyer’s wallet. The receipts record both operations.
