Each receipt records the type and quantity of credits retired, the beneficiary and the source certificates. Those credits cannot be sold or used again.
This contract issues receipts when credits are permanently removed from circulation.

The credit holder and beneficiary are distinct fields. The receipt records the holder’s account and the beneficiary’s identifier.

Can retirement happen after purchase?
The protocol also supports retiring credits in a separate, authorized operation. That technical capability differs from Carrot’s current purchase flow, which retires credits automatically in the same transaction.

No. Retired credits are destroyed and cannot return to circulation. The receipt keeps the references to the quantity, beneficiary and certificates involved.
