Recycling Credit · organic waste
A credit for certified Biowaste recycling.
Composting diverts organic waste (Biowaste) from landfill. This credit represents the mass certified as recycled through that work.

What it represents
1 credit
C-BIOW
1 t of material
One metric ton of certified recycled Biowaste.
From material to credit
The outcome begins with real work.
The material is tracked and composted. The evidence passes through recycling verification rules before issuance.
The material has a history
The MassID records the source, mass and movement of the Biowaste. This chain of custody connects the material to the operation's evidence.

An accredited facility receives and composts eligible Biowaste. Weighing, delivery and treatment are documented throughout the operation.

BOLD Recycling defines the criteria used to verify material eligibility, custody, mass and the composting evidence.

A RecycledID records the verified recycled mass. The amount of C-BIOW issued corresponds to the outcome supported by the certificate.

What each credit represents
One origin. Different outcomes.
The same material can support a recycling outcome and a climate outcome. Each credit has its own unit and verification.

Buying credits funds recycling work
On Carrot's platform, purchased credits are automatically and permanently removed from circulation once the order is complete. You can follow the outcome on the public purchase page.

Issuance of C-BIOW matches the outcome recorded in a RecycledID. Credits allow fractions and are transferable within the protocol.
The protocol supports purchase and retirement as separate operations. In Carrot’s current purchase flow, credits are retired in the same transaction that records the purchase. No credit balance is delivered to the buyer’s wallet. The receipts record both operations.

The certificate supports credit issuance. The receipts identify the certificates and amounts used in purchase and retirement.
